Survey Reveals Job Security Is Not The Most Important Factor For Attracting New Staff
After two consecutive falls in the unemployment figures and the UK officially out of recession, last year's redundancies, recruitment freezes and pay reductions have begun to be replaced by more hiring activity and incremental pay rises as the recruitment market edges back towards being candidate- not vacancy- driven.
Even so, it was interesting to see that opportunities for Career Progression (63%) are regarded as being more important than Job Security (59%) for attracting new employees, according to respondents to the Reed Specialist 2010 Salary and Benefits Survey, which polled 40,000 employers.
The survey also revealed that employers value experience (88%) far higher than qualifications (12%) when looking to fill job vacancies over the next 12 months.
Commenting on the findings of this nationwide survey, Reed Specialist managing director Tom Lovell said: "With 31% of employers saying they plan to increase headcount in 2010 and a further 33% presently unsure, we are confident that there will be many more opportunities for jobseekers as the year progresses.
"As the economy improves and the number of job vacancies increases, more people will look to change jobs of their own accord and talent retention will return as a key focus for employers."
