Reed's New HR Seminars Are a Hit in Qatar

Reed Personnel Services Qatar LLC has launched the first of many HR business seminars, focussing on important and real HR issues affecting companies in Qatar and the GCC.

The inaugural Mujtama seminar attracted an attendance of 40 valued members consisting of local HR Directors and senior business leaders who met at Sharq last month.  After initial registration, morning coffee and networking sessions introductions were given by Steve Williams, Country Manager for Reed Qatar, who provided a warm welcome and introduction outlining the aims of Mujtama and discussed the key points this raised about its development, and HR Best Practice champion Mr Ali Al-Humaidi, who very kindly gave his thoughts and opinions about this event and it's topics.

The day consisted of various discussion groups, break out sessions and workshops which were designed to discuss topics that could potentially be raised at future seminars surrounding the challenges we all face in the HR arena in Qatar.

There was a general consensus amongst all groups and several common themes emerged during the day. It was reassuring for many to hear that we all share similar challenges within the local market place. What was more reassuring was finding out how so many of us were able to offer advise and support to help each other. Key topics included Qatarisation, Quality of Salary Information, HR Policies on Human Capital, Education Centres, HR Code of Practice and VISA issues just to name a few.

Overall there was a great deal of support from the community and no shortage of people who have volunteered to provide support and work with Reed to take on these tasks.

The roadmap for the coming months see's Reed working closely with business professionals on developing contacts and connection with the Ministry of Labour and Chambers of Commerce for Qatarisation needs.  A joint approach will be taken to learn new HR practices and refines skills.  The business community will work together to obtain a code of conduct for professional HR practices.  Joint communications and media representation will be used to ensure Brand Qatar is seen with the vision and foresight it deserves, Reed Qatar to working closely to secure a local expert to support organisations with understanding the visa process in the more complex areas such as to visa transfers and block visa application.

Finally, pioneered by Reed as a "community", we can all help to introduce better career planning for Qatari under graduates, advise on what they should expect when they hit the work force and encourage work force planning for the nation to ensure the right graduates in the right fields are available as the work force needs them.
