How to help a recruitment consultant work for you:

1. If you are dropping in, where possible try to avoid calling in between 12 and 1pm, not because our consultants will be tucking into their ham sandwiches, but because it’s likely other jobseekers will have booked in time for an interview or to have a chat with their consultant about opportunities.  If lunch time is all you have then come and see us but be prepared to make an appointment later in the week.

2. Don’t arrive empty handed! Bring your up to date CV with you.  If you are a little stuck we can have a chat or provide ideas for you on how to structure your CV, but have a go before you come in.

3. Before you arrive think about what it is that you want. What kind of job are you looking for? location, salary – all the important factors that you may not have fully considered. A recruitment consultant is there to help you find the job that is right for you.

4. Think about your finest moments. What have you achieved in your current or last role? What are your big successes that you cannot cram into your CV that an employer would want to hear about?

5. Dress to impress. A recruitment consultant is selling you into companies and first impressions do count, try and dress as though you are going to an interview or at work in the type of role you are looking for. The employer you’d like to work for could be visiting the branch! This will also help if you are booked for an interview with a company as your consultant can advise whether your outfit is suitable for an interview at the company, as some offices have fairly strict dress codes.

6. Always ask your consultant for feedback. What do they think about the way you answered their questions? How did you come across? What were your strengths and weaknesses when meeting someone for the first time.

7. Always call your consultant after an interview at a company, this way if you had any slip ups you can explain them straightaway, if the company calls your consultant they can have a chat about why it happened.
